"Bareback Town" was another arguably 'better' show for the series in its desire to develop some actual characters and conflicts and yet it was even less enjoyable to watch. But since a lot of series aren't outstanding in their first seasons, it is at least a little bit promising that the creators recognize and are actively trying to solve a lot of the show's problems.
